Pop UP Newspaper Teahouse

Recently Maker Extraordinaire Jared Diprose (jareddiprose.co.nz) built a timber-framed teahouse clad in newspaper, inside Crave Cafe in Morningside, Auckland.

I served tea. Over 400 cups, over 4 days for up to 7 hours a day. As an introvert it was exhausting, but so much fun meeting friends and strangers and introducing them to tea-making and teas from New Zealand’s fabulous Zealong Tea Estate. (Zealong.com).

Thanks to Shona at Albert-Eden Neighbourhood Grants we were able to offer unlimited bowls of 3 organic full leaf Zealong teas to each guest at no charge.

The thin walls really did make for a “thin place” (in the Celtic sense) where, despite the noise around us in the cafe, people could be present to themselves, each other and the sacred. Making space for people to slow down and connect was our small contribution to the flourishing of humanity.

I've been curating worship for several decades (and coined the term in relation to worship.) I am passionate about the local community of faith and imagining what its worship needs to look/feel/sound/taste like in order to sustain people in their following of Christ in the world.
